The 8th PKD "Homecoming" National returned to Kansas but for the first time to a larger venue. By 1930 Wichita, Kansas was expanding dramatically into a true city due to its association with the budding commercial air industry earning the title of "Air Capital of the World." (a title it would not retain long but to this day is still the headquarters of Boeing.)

For the first time, rather than spread out on college campuses, the entire convention/tournament activities, including its participants, would be housed within the facilities of a single large urban hotel.  For the first time as well, some far-flung participants would take advantage of Wichita's growing reputation and travel to the convention by plane.

The tournament categories remained Oratory, Debate and Extemporaneous but participation continued to expand with as many women participatipants as men.
